Boiling Frogs

Drop a frog into a pot of boiling water and he’ll jump right out. Drop him into a pot of comfortably cool water, let him relax, turn up the heat, and you have a nicely boiled frog. So goes the folk wisdom [hat tip to my brother Richard].

Americans are waking up. We see the stew that we are bubbling in and sense the danger. After a decades-long affair with Big Government we realize that the things that matter most are in jeopardy. We are organizing. We are electing. We are advocating a sensible return to limited government, fiscal responsibility, and economic freedom. Ask anyone who has been to a Tea Party event and they’ll tell you it’s not about political parties anymore, it’s about principles and policies. It’s about returning power to “We the People.”

Our 100 Year Experiment with Freedom

For the first 100 years in America we had limited government, free citizens, and a free market economy (read Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations). These economic and personal freedoms catapulted our country from obscurity to greatness. By 1905 America, with only a 5% of the world’s land mass and 6% of the world’s population, produced over half of the world’s goods (read pp. 131-139 in Skousen’s The 5,000 Year Leap).

Our 100 Year Experment with Big Government

Starting around 1913 politicians convinced voters that they needed Big Government. Big Government would solve social and economic problems. Big Government would keep our nation secure. The results of Big Government in America, around the world, and throughout history are the same: crippling national debt, bankrupt entitlement programs, and corrupt politicians who get re-elected by redistributing taxpayer money to special interests. As happened with Rome, we are now rapidly “slouching toward serfdom” while the central government grows its power (read Hayek’s The Road to Serfdom).

What to Do?

There are only two paths:

  1. Continue as we are, believing that Big Government and corrupt politicians will deliver a kinder, gentler, more prosperous and secure America (while they run up the national credit card),  OR
  2. Learn our history, including principles of freedom and free markets, get organized, and elect leaders who will get government out of the way so that we AMERICANS can restore our OWN economy and take care ourselves, our families and our neighbors in the way we see fit.

What’s in the Blog?

This blog includes:

  • News (“My Mellow Americans…”)
  • Analysis (“Think Outside the Pot” and “We’re In This Pot Together”)
  • Quotes (“Worth Repeating…”)
  • Action Alerts (“Shh…Don’t Do a Thing!”)

NOTE: I believe that as Americans, we share many common values but have different ideas on how to turn those values into results. Rather than getting side-tracked by the politics of “personal identity,” this blog will attempt to promote a conversation focused on principles and policies. Thanks for visiting, please leave comments!

Education first! Yes, incentive for Americans to reach past and push for real answers. To question delivery and make decisions based NOT on who tendered the greatest speech or manipulated air time. To communicate with each other and spread the wildfire that commercials and fronts NEITHER fool us NOR gain elections. To light a fire under each person to step out of the mediocre.

It is a large undertaking since the essence of America has pushed from productivity to hollow character. The pervasive theme is now limelight, ease. If Americans are going to fall for Kate Gosselin with hair extensions instead of the foundation of eight children, it will be a large undertaking indeed to see this through. Sign me up for the challenge.

I am impressed with your research and share your energy and passion! THIS is what people need to see.

One of the best ways to get educated is to learn the first twelve amendments. It tells us that we have freedom of religion speech and press, as well as the freedom to assemble and petition. 2: right to bear arms. and so on. I think that my two of my personal favorite are the ones that say, the government has no more power than what we list here, and that even though we didn’t list all of them, the people have more rights than these listed. Oh, and before i forget, Hi aunt Rebecca and Uncle Steven! :)
